Publishing with KDP is Hard

(But You Can Do It!)

KDP is hard.

Like, really hard.

I just thought you should know that.

My Experience

I’ve spent the last few years writing, formatting, and working with different programs like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Adobe InDesign; to date, I have never actually published a book.

Part of that is because I prioritized my responsibilities as a parent over my hobbies, but the other part is that there is a serious learning curve in self publishing.

Even almost two decades of design experience didn’t matter. It’s still taken weeks upon weeks to feel like I’m sort of getting the hang of this.

Now, I’m happy to say that I’ve finally ordered my second proof copy and I am waiting on it to be delivered so that I can put the finishing touches on my files.

Truth be told, even after going through this whole process, I feel like I will still struggle at times with publishing my next books.

You see, each book is different and therefore each book has different problems to solve.

So while I can create a “template” that will make things a little easier for my next book, I know that curve balls will still be thrown in my face, and I will probably spend countless hours troubleshooting to get things just right.

It’s worth it though.

Going Forward

So if you feel intimidated, don’t.

As with anything, struggling is part of the process. Struggling is what makes you gain more experience and continue to grow.

If you keep yourself challenged, you will learn more and add more to your set of skills.Which is a good thing, because you just never know when those will come in handy!

There’s never been a better time to learn than now. With the rise of the internet, accessibility to knowledge has never been more widely available.

Whether it’s through Medium, YouTube, Google, or somewhere else — the answers to nearly all of your questions are at the very tips of your own fingers.

Conclusion

You don’t need to take a special class to learn writing, formatting, or how to use new software.

All you need to do is to jump right in and create your own learning path.

You just need to start.

If you have questions, ask them along the way.

You can do this.

I promise.
